The NBA trade deadline occurred on February 9th, 2023. To say it was a wild one would be an understatement. We saw guys like Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and D’angelo Russell being moved. The Atlanta Hawks have been struggling offensively this season and it is no surprise they’d be active this deadline. Heading into the all star break they currently sit at 29-30. It was evident changes had to be made!

On February 9th, The Hawks acquired Detroit Pistons small forward Saddiq Bey in a 4 team trade also involving the Portland Trail Blazers and Golden State Warriors. There were major concerns around this trade as Gary Payton II failed his physical with the Warriors. The Warriors could choose to decline the trade after finding out this information, but ultimately they decided to go through with the trade.

Bey is currently averaging 14.5 points per game, 4.7 rebounds per game, and shooting 40.4%. He has shown that he can be a good player in this league. Last Year with the Detroit Pistons Bey had a 51 point game against the Orlando Magic. Following the trade Hawks head coach Nate McMillian said this. “He’s a guy who can put the ball in the basket, who can help spread the floor for you.” Bey made his Hawks Debut on February 13th, where he scored 12 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and shot 44%. The Hawks have high hopes for Bey, If it all works out this could be a move that turns them around and helps make a playoff push!
