Houston Rockets convert Matthews contract, waive House and more
The Houston Rockets have waived 28-year-old Forward Danuel House so the Rockets can assign their minutes to younger players. The 2021-22 season was his 4th season with the Houston Rockets and over that time he averaged 9.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists. House was a fan favorite in Houston and will be missed by Rockets fans.
The Rockets are using their open roster spot to convert Garrison Matthews two way deal into a 4-year contract worth more then $8 million. Houston is 7-4 with Matthews in the starting lineup. “Garry Bird” has been cooking for Houston as he has averaged 16.5 points when starting.
Houston is also signing Trevelin Queen to a two-way deal. Queen has been playing for the Rockets G-league affiliate Rio Grande Valley Vipers. For the RGV Vipers, he has put up 10 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.2 steals per outing. Queen will join the Rockets on Saturday to face off against the 4-23 Detroit Pistons.
The Rockets are currently 14th in the Western Conference (9-20). They are currently in a rebuild phase and are actively making moves to get younger players and picks. Houston have been involved in multiple trade talks including a Christian Wood trade and have very recently entered the race for disgruntled Star Ben Simmons.
