Miami Heat Ink Adebayo with 5-Year, $163M Extension
The Miami Heat are extending Bam Adebayo, inking him in Miami for the next five seasons worth $163M.
Adebayo had just one more year remaining on his rookie deal before becoming officially eligible to become a restricted free agent ahead of the 2021-22 NBA season. With the extension, Adebayo will make a base salary of just $5.1 million this season, then the money will begin to kick in with a starting salary of around $28 million for the 2021-22 season.
If Adebayo earns an All-NBA team this season, something he just missed accomplishing this past season, his annual salary would increase. Adebayo was an All-Star for the first time last season, also winning the skills competition at All-Star weekend. Adebayo additionally made the NBA’s All-Defensive team.
After a promising finals run by the Miami Heat, they lock up one of their best players in Adebayo, sealing the center position for years to come. The Heat organization now has Jimmy Butler, Goran Dragić, Tyler Herro, and now Bam Adebayo under contract through 2022.
