Rockets Sign Demarcus Cousins
One of the true mysteries of this free agent class had found a new home. Demarcus Cousins has signed a 1 year, minimum contract with the Houston Rockets. After rumours of both Harden and Westbrook looking to be traded away, the Rockets seemingly make this move in hopes of keeping both stars.
Last season, the Rockets were fully committed to their small ball lineup. They dealt Capela at the deadline, added more shooting wings, and expected Harden and Westbrook to lead them to a championship. However, after another playoff exit, they have scrapped that plan. Adding Cousins will make the team much more versatile. Even after his injuries, he is a reliable interior presence and can stretch the floor better than most big men.
In Cousins, the Rockets are adding their best scoring big in a very long time. Along with Christian Wood, they suddenly have nice depth and scoring ability in the front court. Should Cousins remain healthy, he will be a huge part of this teams’ success this season.
A former all-star, who averaged 27 ppg at the peak of his career, Boogie’s talent is undeniable. The fit with 3 players who are used to having the ball a ton is concerning, but this is a great move for Houston. In the position they are in, they needed to make another move to try and make this core work, which they have done.
