NFL passes measure rewarding minority development with compensatory picks

NFL owners have approved a measure that will reward teams for developing minority staff members who go on to head coaching and general managing roles with other franchises.

A team that loses a minority coach or front office executive to another team via promotion will be rewarded with a third-round compensatory pick for 2 consecutive years.

The promoted staff member must hold their position for a minimum of 2 years without a break in employment to qualify.

This resolution is one of many initiatives the NFL has passed to help promote diversity in a league which has faced criticism for the lack of minorities in management positions compared to the amount of minority player’s active in the league.

Earlier in the year the league passed the Rooney Rule which requires additional interviews for minority candidates.
