The Clemson Tigers regular season win streak has ended as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have taken down Clemson, 47-40. The No. 1 team in the country has fallen, as starting quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, missed his second consecutive game. The Fighting Irish secured the win in dramatic fashion, pulling away in double-overtime.
Notre Dame was led by quarterback, Ian Book, and running back, Kyren Williams. Book completed 22 of 39 passes, for 310 yards, and a touchdown. The lone passing touchdown went to wide receiver, Avery Davis, who caught 4 passes for 78 yards. Kyren Williams opened the gate for the Fighting Irish, scoring the first points of the game, on a 65-yard scamper. Williams also rushed for 140 yards on 23 carries. Williams ran in for 3 scores total.
Clemson was without Trevor Lawrence, but true freshman quarterback, D.J. Uiagalelei did not disappoint. Uiagalelei threw for 439 yards, and two touchdowns. Cornell Powell caught 6 passes, or 161 yards, and a touchdown. Amari Rodgers caught 8 passes, for 134 yards. The Fighting Irish dominated Etienne holding the ACC’s all-time leader in rushing yards to just 18 yards on the ground.
Notre Dame is now ranked second in the country, jumping over Ohio State, as Clemson falls to fourth. Alabama is the number one ranked team in the country. The Fighting Irish will move on to face the Boston College Eagles next week. The Clemson Tigers will go on to play the Florida State Seminoles.
