Sixers Hire Jameer Nelson as G League Scout and Assistant GM

The 76ers continue to add new pieces to their front office and staff, hiring former point guard Jameer Nelson as a scout and assistant GM for the G League team. The team is certainly looking to take a new direction, and this was always going to begin with their staff.

With potential changes coming with their players as well, this could be the beginning of a brand new era for Philly. The debate rolls on about whether Embiid and Simmons will ever work together. They have only been out of the first round twice, and have lost in the second round both times.

The rumours have swirled about potentially dealing Simmons for the 1st overall pick. Some have even said Embiid to Houston could be a possibility this offseason. It seems unlikely a trade of this magnitude could go down, but you never know. With a new head coach, and many new staff members, the direction for the team may change.

Nelson is a very interesting hire, and could work his way up into a bigger role. He was a standout point guard with the Magic, helping take them to the finals in 2008. Rivers was coaching the Celtics at the time, a rival or Orlando’s, and may have had something to do with this hire. Philly makes another smart move, adding another cerebral piece to their organization.
