Bettor Loses $250,000 on Marcus Smart In Game 4

Betting on sports is one of the most risky things you can do if you’re not smart about what you’re doing. Sometimes even the safest of bets can fall through and leave you out of a decent amount of money. Somebody is out of a lot of money after placing what, in his opinion, was a reasonable bet on game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The bet was $250,000 on Marcus Smart scoring 13 points in game 4 of ECF and in the previous 5 games Marcus did just that. However, Smart did not have the best of games and ended up only scoring 10 points enroute to a 112-109 Celtics loss. $250,000 down the drain for the unlucky bettor and Marcus just chalks it up as a bad game. Betting large amounts on statistics rather than outcome is extremely risky, and this bet was the epitome of that risk.

When betting on sports, you have to remember that these athletes you are betting on are normal people who occasionally have bad days. I’m sure the person who placed $250,000 on this bet has more money where that came from, and in reality 13 points was very realistic, but in sports anything can happen. So for you average bettors out there; read this story, learn from it, and remember to always be smart with your money.
