Formula 1: Lewis Hamilton Under Investigation for Wearing a ’Political’ Shirt
Today was the Tuscan Grand Prix and after two red flags and what can only be described as a remarkable race, Lewis Hamilton took his 90th Formula 1 victory.
However, prior to the race, during the ’taking a knee’ ceremony in a stand against racism, the World Champion wore a shirt that read ”Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor”.
After the race he wore the shirt again on the podium as God Save the Queen was playing. The shirt also read ’Say her name, ’ on the back.
The Attorney General in Kentucky, where Breonna Taylor was killed, is still investigating the killing and because of that, some senior Formula 1 figures see Hamilton’s intervention as ’political’.
FIA, the governing board for the board, forbid political statements of any kind in their statutes. Hamilton is now facing an investigation and the likelihood is that he will be fined.
In his post race interview, Hamilton paid tribute to Breonna Taylor as he talked about how difficult the race was with two restarts.
”It was like 3 races in one day, just incredibly tough.”
Hamilton seeks to equal Micheal Schumacher’s record for most wins in Formula 1 history on September 27th in Russia.
