NFL Season Kickoff

The NFL season is set to kickoff in Kansas City, as the Chiefs will host the Houston Texans on Thursday night.

NFL fans had the season in doubt, after a worldwide pandemic took over the world, causing deaths across the globe.

Although the pandemic was a serious threat, Roger Goodell and executives were determined to formulate a plan for the 2020 NFL season. Despite the coronavirus outbreak, the Chiefs will have up to 15,000 fans in attendance for their season opener.

The Chiefs come into the new season as defending Super Bowl Champions, and Patrick Mahomes looks to pave the way back to the playoff for Kansas City.

The Chiefs had a interesting offseason as they were informed starting left guard, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, would opt out of the season due to COVID-19 concerns. They also inked Patrick Mahomes for the next 10 years up to $503M, and extended both Andy Reid and Brett Veach for the next 6 years.

As for Houston, they enter the season after losing to the a Chiefs in last years AFC Championship game. The Texans extended Deshaun Watson, tying him with the team til the end of the 2024 season. The contract is worth up to $160M, with a no trade clause included.

Outside of Watson’s extension, Texans head coach, Bill O’Brien, has had a shaky offseason after trading elite receiver Deandre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for running back David Johnson. O’Brien also brought in speedy receiver Brandon Cooks to help Watson and the Texans make it back to the playoffs .

The NFL community is in for a treat Thursday night as two of the top young quarterbacks go head to head in the season opener Thursday night.
