Why Damian Lillard’s Response to Skip Bayless Made Absolutely No Sense

Beef between NBA Players will almost always get into the media, and the Paul George Vs Damian Lillard beef was no different.

NBA analyst Skip Bayless had this to say about Damian Lillard:

“I’m still not buying ‘Dame Time’ and apparently, neither are the Clippers.”

Seems like a somewhat harsh but fair statement, right?

Obviously, knowing Dame, we all knew that he’d respond to it, and he did, but his response made zero sense. Here’s what Lillard said:

“I have never been buying nothing about you fam.” Damian said, seems fair so far, but then he says this:

“You a joke. And after our private convo full of back pedaling you will never have my respect.”

Like, what?

What exactly does that have to do with anything? Given Dame’s outwardness about his political views, it’s safe to assume that ‘back-pedaling’ meant that Bayless likely did not support Black Lives Matter, or at least some aspects of that, and if that’s not what he’s talking about, then it doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

So, assuming Lillard does mean that Bayless is, at least, more right-leaning than Lillard, then why exactly is that relevant?

Do his political beliefs suddenly discredit anything he says related to basketball? That doesn’t make any sense.

Skip Bayless has said so many stupid things over the years, being a critic of both Curry and LeBron, being wrong about both of them, but the best reasoning for him not be a valid NBA analyst is his views on American politics.

It is one of the pettiest ways possible to show aggravation towards someone else’s beliefs and hopefully, Lillard won’t do it again, because it doesn’t make him look smart, it makes him look closed-minded and unwilling to listen to other viewpoints.
