WWE Smackdown Results – 8/7/20
Matt Riddle vs. Sheamus
Sheamus starts with the upper hand, but Riddle quickly gains momentum. Sheamus reverses a senton from Riddle, and hits One Noise. He goes for a cover but Riddle kicks out at two. The two begin to fight outside of the ring but Shorty G appears from the back and beats down Riddle. “The Original Bro,” Matt Riddle, regains control and takes out Shorty G. Sheamus, furious that he just lost by disqualification, Brogue Kicks Shorty G inside of the ring. Matt Riddle wins via. disqualification – Grade C+
Miz TV with Sonya Deville
Sonya Deville joines The Miz and John Morison for an episode of MizTV. All three wrestlers take shots at Mandy Rose, after she was attacked by Deville last week. Otis, Rose’s love interest, has heard enough and charged down to the ring and attacks The Miz and Morrison. A match between The Miz and John Morrison and Otis’s tag team, Heavy Machinery, will now take place later in the show.
Cesaro vs. Lince Dorado
Cesaro out-poweres Dorado throughout the match. Dorado, of The Lucha Houseparty, did gain some offense, but it wasn’t enough to keep down Cesaro. Shinsuka Nakamura, Cesaro’s tag team partner, distracts Dorado giving “The Swiss superman” an opportunity to gain momentum. Dorado, however, reverses a potential ending to the match. He attempts to pin Cesaro but doesn’t succeed. Cesaro then hits an uppercut and The Neutralizer and gets the win. Cesaro wins via. Pinfall – grade C
Universal Champion Braun Strowman wants “The Fiend” at Summerslam
Braun Strowman lets “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt know that the two of them will face each other at Summerslam. Strowman says that when he came out of the swamp, after the fight, he became “The Monster.”
Jeff Hardy vs. King Corbin
Hardy starts off with some momentum over Corbin, but it wasn’t for long. Corbin reverses an attack from Hardy, and begins to wear him down. The two begin to fight outside, but Hardy brings it back inside the ring. Corbin then reverses a move from Hardy and hits the Deep Six. Hardy kicks out at two, and is sent outside of the ring. Sheamus comes from the back and Brogue Kicks Hardy. Corbin is then disqualified and this sets up the next match. Jeff Hardy wins via. disqualification – Grade C+
King Corbin vs. Sheamus
Corbin and Sheamus wrestle outside of the ring. Corbin has the upperhand and eventually brings the fight back into the ring. Sheamus hits Corbin with his knee and sends him back outside of the ring. Sheamus attacks Corbin for a while, and gets back into the ring. Corbin, eventually, wrestles down Sheamus. Matt Riddle then causes a distraction, and Sheamus hits a Brogue Kick. He covers Corbin and picks up the win. Sheamus wins via. pinfall – Grade C+
Stephie McMahon sets Sasha Banks and Bayley’s potential SummerSlam Opponents
Stephanie McMahon sets two matches to determine Sasha Banks and Bayley’s Summerslam opponents. She says Sasha Banks will face off against, “The Empress of Tomorrow,” Asuka. Bayley will go against the winner of a triple brand battle royal, that will take place next week.
Heavy Machinery vs. The Miz and John Morrison
Tucker, of Heavy Machinery, starts off with momentum but can’t tag in Otis. The Miz and John Morrison begin to attack Tucker. They keep Tucker down for a long time, but he does find an opening and tags in Otis. Mr. Money in the Bank is now on a roll. He takes out The Miz, and then he takes out Morrison. Otis hits the Caterpillar and goes for the cover, but The Miz breaks it up. The two teams then fight outside of the ring. Mandy Rose comes running down to the ring ,from the back, and attacks Sonya Deville, who was at ringside. The two women bring their fight to the ring and the referee has to call for the bell, ending the match. Heavy Machinery vs. The Miz and John Morrison ends in no contest – Grade B-
Retribution brings an attack to Smackdown
Retribution, a new faction in WWE, appears from the corner of the building and begins to attack everyone at Smackdown. They destroy the ring and take out the “fans” behind the plexiglass. They spray paint the barricade and the Smackdown logo, ending the show.
