REPORT: Washington Redskins Have Announced They Will Review Their Name
The Washington Redskins have announced that they are undergoing a “thorough investigation” of their team name. This comes less than a day after FedEx asked Washington to change their name, FedEx CEO Fred Smith is also a minority owner of the team.
Along with FedEx’s request to change the team name, Nike took action and removed all Redskins’ apparel Thursday evening. The word “Redskin” was used as a racial remark to Native Americans and for many years people have urged Washington to change their name.
After years of trying to change the franchise’s name, it appears it may finally happen and it should be interesting to see what Washington has in plan for a new name. The Last time an NFL team swapped names was in 1999 when the Tennessee Oilers became the Tennessee Titans.
