The Cleveland Cavaliers are not looking for a Point Guard
The Cleveland Cavaliers were one of the worst teams in basketball as they finished with tied the best odds for the #1 pick with a record of 19-45. The Cavaliers have spent lottery picks on point guards for two consecutive years and don’t seem to be planning on taking one for the third consecutive year.

According to Killian Hayes’ agent, the Cavaliers are “not interested” in taking a point guard in this class, hence why Hayes won’t interview with the Cavaliers. If you’re unfamiliar with Killian Hayes, he is one of the premier point guard prospects from Ratiopharm Ulm which is a professional German basketball team that competes in the EuroCup.

This report seems like a strong indication that the Cavaliers believe in their young backcourt of Colin Sexton and Darius Garland so they are not ready to stir the pot in their backcourt just yet. That means prospects such as Lamelo Ball and Anthony Edwards could also be out of the conversation for the Cavaliers. Expect Cleveland to target wings and forwards such as Obi Toppin (who played college basketball in Dayton, Ohio), James Wiseman, Onyeka Okongwu, Deni Avdija, and Isaac Okoro.
The draft lottery is on August 25th and the actual NBA draft will take place on October 16th; a lot can happen for the teams preparing for the lottery between now and then, especially with this unorthodox offseason.
