Nets Sign Tyler Johnson, Waive Theo Pinson
The Brooklyn Nets have waived SG/SF Theo Pinson in order to create space to sign free-agent guard Tyler Johnson per Shams Charania and Adrian Wojnarowski.
Theo Pinson spent most of his time playing for the Nets G-league partner, the Long Island Nets. Pinson spent most of his time in the NBA on the bench. Pinson was often seen dancing, trolling the other team, or just having fun with his teammates and keeping the teams morale up.
The Nets likely waived Pinson in order to add more talent to their team for a possible run in the Orlando Bubble. Ty Johnson played 2 seasons in Miami and played well. Johnson was used as a 6th man and sometimes a starter. After 2 seasons however, Johnson’s production declined. Before the trade deadline last year the Heat traded Johnson to the Suns in order to dump his salary. After being traded to the Suns his production did not change much and was eventually waived by the Suns in February.
The Nets needed to ass some more talent to add to their roster which is going to be missing stars, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in Orlando. The Nets are attempting to fill a little bit of this gap with free-agents, starting with Johnson, but it is highly unlikely the Nets come out of the first round without their 2 best players.
