Knicks Waive Alonzo Trier, Sign Theo Pinson

The New York Knicks have waived Shooting Guard Alonzo Trier in order to create room for former Nets SG/SF, Theo Pinson.

This move is very puzzling. Former undrafted free agent, Alonzo Trier, showed signs of potential under David Fitzdale’s system during his rookie year, averaging 10.9 PTS, 3.1 REB, and 1.9 AST in just 22.1 MIN. After the Knicks moved on from Fitzdale, Trier’s role decreased compared to his rookie season.

Due to NBA eligibility rules, Trier will not be able to play in the postseason since he was waived after March 1st. Many playoff teams will likely not sign Trier just for the 8 games before the playoffs so Trier will likely be signed to a non-bubble team or a lower seeded bubble team since teams will likely try and grab him before the offseason chaos begins.

There is no doubt that Trier will play in the NBA once again whether it is before or after Orlando. Trier is a solid role player with good potential for the future.

Theo Pinson was waived by the Nets in order to clear up space for Tyler Johnson who the Nets signed right after waiving Pinson.

Pinson spent most of his time in the league playing for the Nets G-league partner, the Long Island Nets. Although Pinson spent most of his time playing in the G-league, Pinson was a good spirited player while at the NBA level.

Pinson often spent his time on the bench reacting to plays or even dancing. Pinson was often having a fun time with his teammates and keeping the teams morale up.

Although Pinson may help with the Knicks morale, the Knicks need talent at this point. Trier showed promise of developing into a quality player that the Knicks could use in the future especially since Trier was just a restricted free-agent this year so the Knicks would be able to match any offer made to Trier in order to keep him.

The Knicks may have just made a big mistake waiving Trier and its now only up to time to tell.
