Retired New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has told New England that he has an interest in playing football again but not for the Patriots. Gronkowski has stated in the past he will only play football if Tom Brady is the quarterback and that statement still stands today as he wants to play alongside Brady in Tampa Bay.
“I’m not totally done,” said Gronkowski when asked if he would stay retired.
The Patriots and Buccaneers would have to work out a trade similar to the Raiders and Seahawks when running back Marshawn Lynch came out of retirement to play for the Raiders. Gronkowski has been putting on weight in an effort to return to the NFL and has been in preparation for a return. The Buccaneers would have a very scary offense if they are able to pull off a trade for Gronkowski as they would get one of the greatest if not the greatest QB-TE duo in NFL history. According to NFL Insider Ian Rappoport, the Buccaneers and Patriots have had some communication surrounding a trade.
Gronkowski announced his retirement via Instagram before the start of the 2019 season after 9 years of playing with the Patriots. Recording 7,861 receiving yards and 79 touchdowns along with becoming a 3x Superbowl Champion, 4x Pro Bowler, 2x First-team All-Pro. Gronkowski solidified his Hall of Fame career but looks to add to it with a return.
Gronkowski is currently the WWE 24/7 Champion and would most likely have to give up the title.
