Jalen Green has made his decision
Sources say ESPN’s number one ranked player in the class of 2020 Jalen Green will forgo college and instead play in the NBA G-League according to Jonathan Givony.
This was very surprising as it was not an expected move from Green. Green was reportedly down to 2 colleges (Memphis and Auburn) and also had the NBL in mind.
Green had a spectacular senior season at Prolific Prep alongside some other top recruits averaging 31.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and shot 42% from deep.
Here’s some statements Jalen Green put out about each team after his official visits, which now seem quite interesting after his surprising decision.
“It is just how the coaches came at me. They came at me different. They didn’t tell me what I wanted to hear, they were really straight forward with me, and that stood out to me” – Jalen Green after official visit with Auburn
Auburn was an intriguing destination due to Sharife Cooper already committed (Top 20 Guard in the nation) and the possibility of 5 star Greg Brown committing.
“Mike Miller and Penny Hardaway, they are like family to me, I like the facility they have. Memphis is a good school and somewhere that you can just focus on getting better” – Jalen Green after official visit with Memphis
It’s unfortunate for Memphis that they now do not get to enjoy back to back number 1 recruits. This is a very big loss for them as they don’t have even a Top 100 prospect joining them next season.
“I think I want to go college right now. It could be up there in the air, but I think college is my best option. I talk to RJ all the time, he tells me how different it is and how he likes it. We talked to his dad but we are on path to college” – Jalen Green on possibilities of going pro
Pro basketball straight out of high school was never a real consideration for Green unless that meant traveling to Australia and playing in the NBL.
The G-League move was completely unexpected, and it seems that there was something that changed Green’s mind immensely. Green was not adamant on pro basketball especially after his official visits with 5 different schools.
Jalen Green will be in the G-league next season and after next season, will get to likely sign a full contract with an NBA team.
