Breaking news, as Philadelphia head coach Doug Pederson, announced that wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is out for the season with a foot injury. This news comes after last night’s game which resulted in a 23-17 victory against the New York Giants. Jeffery was seen limping off the field in the 2nd quarter of the game. Shortly after limping off the field, Jeffery made his way to the locker room where his status for the game was downgraded to out. As of right now, the condition of his injury is not yet known as he is still undergoing an evaluation to diagnose his condition. However, it will certainly end his season. This saddening news changes everything for both the Philadelphia Eagles franchise and Alshon Jeffery.

Earlier this week, reports came out that after this season finishes, Alshon Jeffery will no longer be wearing midnight green as the Eagles will look to trade or release him. Rumors of the Philadelphia Eagles moving on from Jeffery after this season are looking more and more realistic after last night, one of the main concerns involving Alshon Jeffery is his health and his inability to produce the way the Eagles need him to. Coming into this season, Jeffery was supposed to be the Eagles number 1 receiver, unfortunately, he has not lived up to the hype. In December of 2017 the Philadelphia Eagles signed Alshon Jeffery to a 4yr, $56 million deal through the 2021 season, with Jeffery still under contract for another year, do not be surprised if the Eagles create a trade package centered around Alshon. Through three years with the Philadelphia Eagles, Alshon Jeffery has 165 receptions for 2,122 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns. Although Alshon Jeffery has been solid as the Eagles number 1 wide receiver for 3 years, it is no secret that he is starting to regress, mostly due to his injury history and age. The Eagles are in a bad spot with wide receivers as Alshon is out for the season as previously mentioned, when Nelson Agholor is healthy, he is very inconsistent, and DeSean Jackson can not stay healthy if his life depended on it. The Eagles will look to improve their wide receiver core by going for younger receivers through the draft and also free agency. As the season moves along, I am sure we will hear more about the Philadelphia Eagles plans on their wide receiving core. For more updates, stay tuned.
