LaVar Ball says NO to ‘Zo in NO

As trade talks get more serious between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Los Angeles Lakers in a deal that would send (at the minimum) Anthony Davis to join forces with LeBron James in Los Angeles, the reality of Lakers point guard Lonzo Ball being shipped off in a deal sinks in deeper.

Whatever team picks up Lonzo Ball will of course also pick up media presence and father of Lonzo in LaVar Ball; famous for his antics in the sports world by making crazy accusations. This man was responsible for calling his own son better than Stephen Curry whilst his own son was still in college.

Recently, Magic Johnson and the Los Angeles Lakers sent an offer to the Pelicans including Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson, Michael Beasley, two first round picks and of course, Lonzo Ball. This super deal by the Los Angeles Lakers sees them netting Anthony Davis and Solomon Hill in return for perhaps all of the Lakers young core.

For his career, Lonzo Ball is averaging 10.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.4 assists in 99 games for the Lakers. Before the draft, Lonzo Ball was considered to be a lot of things, but one comparison that was drawn was to Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors. Of course, we all know the hot shooting of Stephen Curry did not carry over to Lonzo Ball. However, despite his not-so-hot shooting, Lonzo Ball has improved his on court awareness, showing better efficiency from both offense and defense this season.

So with the release of new trade rumours, LaVar Ball had to make his opinion known on the matter, stating that he doesn’t want his own son to end up in a New Orleans jersey.

In an interview with ESPN, LaVar Ball stated:

We want to be in L.A. But if he’s traded, I don’t want Lonzo in New Orleans. Phoenix is the best fit for him. And I am going to speak it into existence.

Phoenix is in a shortage of the point guard position, as seen by them playing natural shooting guard Devin Booker at the point guard. This has led the Suns to rank 17th in assists this season.

Having Lonzo Ball on their young lineup would tremendously improve their hopes for playoff contention in the future, as having a solid playmaking point guard around Devin Booker and DeAndre Ayton would help distribute the ball.

Lonzo Ball has missed the past six games with a grade 3 ankle sprain that will keep him away from basketball until late February (estimated). What do you think, will Lonzo Ball suit up in another uniform before Thursdays trade deadline?
