The NBA is in the endgame now. Despite the Los Angeles Lakers holding Stephen Curry to 11 points on poor efficiency, limiting Kevin Durant to 20 points, and forcing Demarcus Cousins and Draymond Green to combine for 13 points, they still lost this home game to the Golden State Warriors, thanks to #11 for the team in blue.
This is what the media was saying the moment it was announced Demarcus Cousins would sign with the Warriors this past offseason. You could lock up 4 of the superstars on any given night but the fifth superstar would drop 40 points in a blowout win. The Warriors ability to score from anyone and anywhere is incredible. Tonight, it was Klay Thompson’s turn.
Klay Thompson tied 1st place for most three pointers made in a game without missing a single one; 10. This led the Golden State Warriors to obliterate the LeBron-less Los Angeles Lakers, 130-111.
I’ve never hit 10 3’s in a row in a game. That’s hard to do. I just happened to be on tonight and I’m happy I was able to do it in front of my family.Klay Thompson on his 10 three pointers made without a miss (missed after his 10th 3pt)
Thompson shot from everywhere, finished 10 of 11 from three pointer, with his one miss coming late after his 10th three pointer sticking in the basket. He finished 17 for 20 from the field overall, solidifying himself as the most efficient player of the night.
In the third quarter, Stephen Curry made a Shaqtin’ highlight by slipping on the open break to attempt a dunk, then airballing a three point shot. After the game, Curry had this to say about his messed up highlight play;
I was like a kid walking into a candy store with the whole half-court empty. I was gonna try something real nice I haven’t tried before. The Lord wouldn’t let me do it.”Stephen Curry, postgame
For the Lakers, Ivica Zubac continued his solid play by notching 18 points and 14 rebounds in 21 minutes. Kyle Kuzma hit for 16 points, but went 0/5 from the three point range.
Luke Walton inserted Brandon Ingram to the starting point guard position after the Lakers lost Lonzo Ball to a torn ligament in his left ankle. They also lost Rajon Rondo and LeBron James to their Christmas day matchup against the Golden State Warriors, despite a win (101-127). Brandon Ingram in this current game went 7/16, with 17 points on the board.
Off the bench, only Michael Beasley and Javale McGee for the Lakers scored double digits (and Zubac), notching 15 points and 10 points respectively.
In the fourth quarter, the cameras picked up on Jordan Bell and head Coach Steve Kerr in the midst of an exchange, probably due to his lack of playing time as of recent. After this exchange, Kerr kept Bell on the floor to rest Demarcus Cousins (21 minutes) and Kevon Looney (22 minutes).
After the exchange, Durant pulled Jordan Bell aside to have a small pep talk alongside Stephen Curry.
You’ve got to stay focused on the game. We’re all going to go through tough times throughout the NBA where we want to speak our mind a bit and will be frustrated about some things.Durant recalls what he said to Jordan Bell during the timeout
After the game, reporters asked for a comment from both Jordan Bell and Steve Kerr. Jordan Bell declined to answer any questions, but Kerr told the media that it was simply just a misunderstanding.
The Warriors will visit Washington to play the Wizards on Thursday in their third game of the four game away trip.
The Lakers will be host to KAT and the Minnesota Timberwolves this upcoming Thursday.
