The one appropriate word to describe the Timberwolves at this moment in time would be, Crazy.

At the beginning of this years offseason, there were some reports that came out saying Jimmy Butler was not impressed with the work ethic of teammates Karl Anthony-Towns and Andrew Wiggins. Despite rumors, Tom Thibodeau and the Wolves organization were prepared to offer Butler a 4-year $110M contract extension. Shortly after, reports came out that Butler had ‘no intentions’ on signing the extension. Then the real drama came. NBA/Timberwolves fans were notified that Butler would be having a meeting with Thibodeau and Wolves General Manager Scott Layden on September 15th, to talk about Butlers future in Minnesota.

Four days after that meeting, news was leaked that the conversation went south and Butler wanted out of Minnesota. After the request, all sorts of drama spewed out from Wiggins and his brother getting in arguments with Butler over social media, to Towns refusing to sign his own offered extension until a Butler trade were to happen. And most recently, a very emotional practice were Butler didn’t hold back by telling the Wolves GM, ‘You f*** need me’.

Now, things have seemed to cool down somewhat. Towns has signed his extension with Butler still on the team, Shams Charania recently reported that Butler is expected to play the season opener vs the Spurs, and Wiggins has started to open up to the fact that Butler in Minnesota might be a good thing.

Have the Timberwolves made up and are all set to go for this upcoming season? Absolutely not. If the Wolves are serious on keeping this current group of guys together, they will have a lot of healing to do and it will take a very long time. Also a Jimmy Butler trade is still a very real possibility that can happen at any moment.
